The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center has joined US Sailing for its certified courses. The US Sailing is a 120 years old national governing body for the sport and training of sailing. The mission of US Sailing is to provide leadership and training for the sport of sailing throughout the United States.
What is so exciting about the Milwaukee community sailing center is that it owns and maintains over 60 boats. When you are a member of the Milwaukee community sailing center, you have no-charge access to a boat’s fleet after you’ve demonstrated basic sailing skills successfully and earned a sailing rating.
This means that for a yearly fee, you can have access to many boats to sail on Lake Michigan anytime you choose or when the boats are available. This is a great way to learn to sail and maintain your sailing skills by permanently joining a very active club and community.

Most students to complete this course earn a Light Air Rating Certification.
- Adult Intermediate And Advanced Courses – They also offer adult intermediate and advanced courses. These courses focus on the intermediate and advanced categories of sailing. Most students will earn a medium air rating in the intermediate course, and in the advanced course, many will earn a Heavy Air Rating.
- Youth Courses (Ages 12 to 17) – They also offer a youth sailing course from ages 12 to 17. Students in this course learn about handling a sailboat, sail theory, and the rules of the waterways. They learn and practice crew overboard maneuvering skills and capsizing recovery skills. The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center offers three youth courses from level one, level two, to level three.
- Prams In The Park (Ages 8 to 11) – The community center offers a Prams in the Park program for younger people. This program has been nationally acclaimed for helping to introduce children to sailing at an early age.
