Spending Christmas Alone – Our Top 11 Tips To Beat Loneliness
There have been several times when I have been overseas, and I have spent Christmas alone. Sometimes it is not easy to spend a holiday like Christmas alone, but there are things that you can do to make the holiday still memorable and worthwhile.
Some of my fondest Christmas memories were when I was alone or with a small group of friends in a foreign country. I learned that Christmas does not need to be a sad time and that you can make Christmas a memorable and happy time no matter where you are or even if you are alone.
Here are our top 11 things you can still do to make Christmas memorable, even if you are alone.
Do Something You Love
You can do something you love. If you love to go to the beach, maybe you can find a beach to go to. If you love to cook, you can cook for just yourself. You can find something you love and find some way to celebrate the holiday, even if you are alone.
So many times, we think we can only do certain things if we are with somebody. But the truth is that we can each do those things with someone and also alone.
There is nothing wrong with cooking a meal for yourself and eating it. You can set the table, light the candles put the music on, and enjoy the Christmas season even if you are alone.
Find Others Who Are Alone
I have found it in my life, but if you look around, you can usually find other people who may also be alone during the holiday season. There have been times when I knew I would be alone, so I gathered together other people I knew who may also be alone, and we gathered together and shared a meal.
Some of the people I knew and other people I did not know. But in the process, I got to know some new people and made new friends.
I discovered that if you look around you, you will probably be able to find other people who may also be alone on Christmas day; you can gather them together and join together for a Christmas celebration.
Find Someway To Serve
Christmas does not need to be a time when you open gifts, eat a meal or think about yourself. There are many ways that you can serve during the Christmas holiday.
I have friends who do not celebrate Christmas but spend Christmas day serving others. You could find a homeless shelter, soup kitchen, or another organization that could use your help during Christmas day, and you could spend time serving and helping others.
As you do this, you will also make new friends along the way; make Christmas a great day of service.
Make It A Personal Day
Make Christmas your day. This could be a day where you pamper yourself, take a long hot bath, read a good book, and lie in bed longer than usual.
You can decide what you want to do on this day and make it your day where you will do those things you want to do. For some people, it may be watching TV, others that might be reading a book, for some taking a long hot bath, and for others, a day of resting and relaxing.
Just do what you want to do guilt-free.

Travel Somewhere Fun
Many people do not celebrate Christmas at all; they will travel over the Christmas holidays. If you have the money and you are able, you can travel somewhere over the Christmas holidays.
This could be as simple as getting in your car on Christmas Day and driving and traveling somewhere. You could also decide to take an exotic holiday to a foreign land. You can choose where you want to go and how you want to spend your day; you can decide to travel or see something new.
Go Out To See And Enjoy The Christmas Lights
The Christmas lights are among the great things about Christmas in many parts of the world. Y you can spend part of your Christmas day going out and looking at the Christmas lights. O e of the things I love to do is to go out and look at Christmas decorations to see how people decorate their homes.
You can do the same thing by simply walking or driving around where Christmas lights are and enjoying the lights and the spirit of the season.
Connect With Others Virtually
Take the time during Christmas day to connect with others virtually. If you cannot be there in person, you can connect virtually. If you have a family you cannot be with, you can watch them share their gifts virtually.
You can call a loved one or an old friend and let them know you are thinking about them. There are many ways to connect with someone and let them know you are thinking about them and love them during this holiday season.
Make It A Day Of Fitness And Fun
You can make Christmas a day of fitness and fun. If you love fitness or if you love to do something such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, bicycling, walking, or hiking. You can go out for a Christmas swim or surf if you live by the beach.
You can spend your Christmas day doing whatever fitness activities you enjoy.
Christmas can be a day where you will spend your time having some fitness and fun.
Make It A Movie Day
If you love movies, you can make Christmas a movie day. In the United States, movie theaters are usually open on Christmas day. Some people spend their Christmas day going from one movie to the next.
Other people find some movies that they want to watch at home. But you can spend your Christmas day watching movies that you love.
Have Your Celebration
Nothing says you cannot just have your celebration on Christmas Day. You can cook a meal for yourself and set up the tablecloth, decorations, and candles. You could even wrap a gift and open it.
Nothing says you cannot celebrate by yourself on Christmas Day.
Remember, It Is Just One Day, And You Do Not Need To Celebrate
Sometimes we forget that Christmas day is just one day of the year. And if you are alone on Christmas day and unsure what to do, remember it is only one day.
When the day is over, things will go back to normal again. So if you feel sad or lonely that you may be alone, find something to do that day and remember that it is just one day out of the year.
Anyone anywhere can be alone one day out of the year – and Christmas day though a memorable holiday, is just one day out of 365 days in a year.
